Thanks to our customers, we have just smashed our target: to grow 200,000 trees through Tree Aid in Africa. We have donated 205,206 trees in total so far.
The Christmas Forest is proud to have supported Tree Aid since 2006. For every real Christmas tree bought from us, we grow a tree in the drylands – the Sahel region – of Africa through Tree Aid. This film gives a good summary of Tree Aid’s work:
When you buy a Christmas tree from us, you’ll be giving another for free this Christmas. For every tree sold at The Christmas Forest, we donate so another tree can be grown by a family in Africa.
The Christmas Forest has already enabled thousands of families to plant 205,206 trees across Africa’s drylands, and we are aiming to reach 300,000 trees and thousands more families in the next three years. All the trees The Christmas Forest donates from the 2017 season will be planted in Mali to restore the land and give families a way to earn a living.
A child dies from hunger every two minutes in the African drylands. In fact, hunger kills more people every year than AIDS, TB and Malaria combined.
TREE AID teaches people skills so they can set up their own businesses growing and selling tree products, such as nuts, fruit and shea butter, to transform their lives now and in the future.
“I am so proud of the work that I have done. As well as being able to feed my children I now spread the word about TREE AID’s training and support to other women in the village, so they can also use trees to earn money and feed their families.” Ama, mother of seven, Northern Ghana
