Tree Aid

TREE AID supports rural African communities affected by Climate Change to use trees to fight poverty, become self reliant and improve their environment. Since 1987, more than 450,000 African villagers have planted over 6.5 million trees.

The Forests for Food project in Ethiopia works with some of the poorest people on earth. Villagers are trained to manage tree nurseries that raise native trees to provide shade, shelter, medicines, tools, fuel and sustainable, nutritious varieties of food that give families the means to step out of poverty. Every tree sold by The Christmas Forest means a new tree will be planted by villagers in Ethiopia.

As Climate Change threatens these communities with prolonged drought and dramatic floods in an unpredictable cycle, planting trees helps increase environmental security. Reduced soil erosion, better water retention, leaf litter for compost and soil improver, and shade for crops and animals all combines to give villagers a better chance in the face of growing climate chaos.

Since 2006, The Christmas Forest has donated over £33,000 towards TREE AID's tree planting projects - that's over 37,000 new trees planted and many more families thriving.
