Recycle your Christmas Tree

After Christmas 2005, the huge spruce tree in Trafalgar Square donated by Norway was shredded for mulch, and used for fertiliser in Parliament Square. You can recycle your tree as well!

Find your nearest recycling facilities at the Recycle for London website or contact your local council to find out more about recycling your Christmas tree. Make sure you go to a recycle point that is appropriate for wood.

Every January, they provide a free Christmas tree recycling service. Households on their garden waste collection scheme can have their trees collected by putting them out on their garden waste collection day. Households who are not part of the Garden waste recycling scheme can take their trees to one of several designated areas. They also offer an assisted collection service for elderly or disabled residents, just contact 020 7525 2000 from the beginning of January to arrange for a collection. All the trees collected will be reprocessed to make mulch that will help bring shrub and flowerbeds back to life in the spring.

The trees are shredded and sent for composting.
